The Visa International Invitational Tournament was recently completed in London. The teams in the men’s pool were Great Britain, Australia, India and Germany. There were days of intense competition between some of the greatest teams in the world which ended up with Germany taking the gold, Australia the silver, and Great Britain the bronze. There was a huge representation of Gryphon going around with Australian guns Rob Hammond (pictured above), Luke Doerner, Fergus Kavanagh and Joel Carroll all in scorching form. James Tindall had a great performance, scoring a ripper drag flick to help Great Britain grab the bronze.
A special mention to Australian superstar and Gryphon ambassador Graeme Begbie who suffered a season ending ACL injury in the warm-up match against India. Begbie, the “2010 Kookaburras Player of the Year”, recently returned to the fold this year after recovering from ACL surgery at the end of the 2010 season, only to have ruptured his “good knee” after slipping on the new Blue Olympic pitch. It is devastating for the young bloke and all the crew at Gryphon wish him all the best on his road back to the green and gold.
Visa International Invitational Tournament – Men

The women proved that a home field advantage will give the Great Britain teams a cracking shot at taking home the gold in the Olympics. This tournament consisted of the round robin matches between Great Britain, Argentina, China and Korea. The tournament was won by the Great Britain side, with Argentina getting silver and Korea grabbing the bronze. Great Britain’s elite Kate Walsh and Laura Unsworth had fantastic performances to ensure the girls grabbed the gold. Carla Rebecchi and Martina Cavallero tore up the blue pitch for Argentina to help get the silver medal.
