Staff designer DC was let loose to create a GRYPHON ART SERIES for the coming Champions Trophy. The resulting collaboration is some of the coolest stuff we’ve seen in a while.Special note is that these are not computer generated images, they are all hand drawn by DC which makes ‘em all the more unique.
The GRYPHON ART SERIES will be made available in A3 size posters and will be given away at the 2009 Men’s Champions Trophy in Melbourne, Australia. We will be previewing one of these every week right here on G-Life in the lead up to the Trophy.
PART 3 unveils a sneak preview of break-through talent Fergy Kavanagh using the soon to be released 2010 GRYPHON TABOO BLUE STEEL.

AUSTRALIAN CHAMPIONS TROPHY TEAM SELECTED

DISCO DANCER IS IN! The Kookaburras have shown their hand for the coming ABN AMRO Champions Trophy in Melbourne which is running from the 28.11 to 06.12
Rising star and Gryphon Ambassador Brent Dancer will make his Major Tournament debut having won selection despite playing only six caps for the Kookaburras. His meteoric rise is testament to his work ethic and desire to play at the top level. Having overcome a knee reco a few years back, Brent has made every post a winner in his assult on selection into the top echelon of Australian Hockey.
Gryphon legends, 2008 Olympian Fergy Kavanagh and 2004/08 Olympian Rob Hammond have both also earned selection in what has been a year of changing landscapes with the Kookaburras. Head Coach Ric Charlesworth used 31 players across six tournaments in 2009 to expose, develop and scout the talent pool in Australia. This has proved fruitful as there are six 2009 debutants in the CT team and selection has been highlighted by the omission of 2008 Olympian and Gryphon stalwart Kiel Brown. Kiel is an instrumental player in the Australian back line and one of the most talented outside halves in World Hockey. His non-selection is surely testament to the strength of the Australian Squad and it looks like the team selections are anything but settled as they lead into the 2010 World Cup. Watch this space as a player of the calibre and character of Kiel isn’t the type to accept non-selection, he’ll be cranking up the training intensity as he proves his worth over the lead up to the WC.
Also named yesterday is the Australian-A team to play Korea in Perth on the 19,21 & 23rd November. Gryphon’s Kiel Brown, Michael Bates and Jono Charlesworth are all there to further impress selectors before the National Program breaks for Christmas. New signing and rising star Joel Carrol has been ruled out with an ankle injury after suffering a nasty fall in an inter-squad practice match last week.

MOVEMBER :: CHANGING THE FACE OF MEN’S HEALTH
OK G-CREW, listen up, this month we’re throwing our weight behind a great cause and we thought it time to word you all up on everything Movember. You’ll see G-TEAM ambassadors Kiel Brown, Rob Hammond, Fergy Kavanagh and Brent Dancer all sporting the Mo this month along with the staff at Gryphon HQ and its all for charity. So please, read on and get involved!
Movember is an annual, month long celebration of the moustache, highlighting men’s health issues, specifically prostate cancer and depression in men.
Mo Bros, supported by their Mo Sistas, start Movember (November 1st) clean shaven and then have the remainder of the month to grow and groom their moustache. During Movember, each Mo Bro effectively becomes a walking billboard for men’s health and, via their Mo, raises essential funds and awareness for Movember’s men’s health partners – The Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and beyondblue – the national depression initiative. At the end of Movember, a series of Gala Partés are held to thank Mo Bros and Sistas for their support and fund raising efforts.
The idea for Movember came about in 2003 when a few mates were having a beer in a small bar in Fitzroy, Melbourne. Inspired by the women’s health movement, it was recognized that men were lacking a way to engage and actively involve themselves in their own health. During a conversation about fashion and past trends, the idea came up to bring the moustache back for one month, and in doing so, have some fun, raise a small amount of money and hopefully encourage men to talk about their health with each other.
Since this time, Movember has continued to grow each year, both in terms of participation numbers and funds raised. In its first year, 30 Mo Bros took part in Movember and last year, in Australia alone, 125,000 Mo Bros & Sistas got on board, raising more than $8million for each of Movember’s men’s health partners
Today, in its sixth consecutive year, Movember takes place around the world. Motivated by what was happening in Australia, a further five countries now embrace the Mo each November; New Zealand, US, Canada, UK and Ireland are all helping Movember to achieve its ultimate goal – to change the face of men’s health globally.
To date, Movember has raised AUS$60 million globally for the fight against prostate cancer and depression in men. And, more importantly, as a direct result, male awareness of health issues has improved with Movember helping to spread health messages directly to millions of Mo Bros & Sistas around the world.
Going forward, Movember will continue to work towards helping to change established habits and attitudes and make men aware of the risks they face, thereby increasing early detection, diagnosis and effective treatment.

- Very big steps have been taken towards changing attitudes and habits relating to men’s health but there is still much to be done to catch up with the women’s health movement
- Via the Mo, Movember aims to provoke conversation around men’s health, with a view to breaking down traditional taboos and habits
