WWC10 x DAY2 x NZ v GER

New Zealand are a team on the up. Actually a country on the up in Hockey as a whole. They’ve shown in the Mens and Womens competitions to be moving forward with some great performances.
Their first game in the World Cup is against powerhouse Germany, who look very composed. Talking to NZ coach Mark Hager before the match he was confident with his team but admitted that Germany’s experience in the opening of games is their strong point.
He wasn’t wrong with Germany scoring two very early goals. What could only be described as German efficiency they took their limited chances and scored. Why was it efficient?
New Zealand was holding the ball well, and not only that but running forward with pace and purpose. They looked very very dangerous with many shots on goal. The three big threats up front included Krystal Forgesson, Anita Punt and Junior World Cup 2009 star Katie Glynn.
No matter how much control and how much fitter the New Zealand team looked and played, they couldn’t get past the German keeper.
The final score was 2 goals to Germany and 0 to NZ, but New Zealand can take a lot away from this game as they looked fitter and more likely to score. They also put on the most entertaining game in this World Cup to watch.
In the early game, Holland were shocked early by being level with India goal a piece from most of the first half but then the Dutch put the hammer down winning 7 goals to 1.

And so it is. The Champion has been crowned for another year, legends made and destroyed, stars born and others have faded.
The CT10 has been one of the highest scoring tournaments in the history of the game. Hockey has never looked so good, been so fast and exciting as what we just witnessed over the past 9 days. Gryphon was there every day to photograph this monumental tournament to bring you closer than ever before to one of the great major events in World Hockey. We reported on the story behind the game, the characters that give identity to the sport we love and those that represent our great brand with passion and pride.
We need to send a massive shout out to photog Daniel ‘DC’ Carson whom spent countless hours behind the lens to capture some truly great moments in time. He has befriended many of the teams and gets access to area’s that others dream to walk. Also to the crew at the Gryphon Store that were there all week welcoming the fans and showing off the best that we have to offer. They explain the product and R&D behind our weapons like no one else so hopefully the faithful, fanatical and punters alike got to experience the vibe of our brand and the movement of our company.
In the end we think this tournament has been a great success on many level’s and that Hockey has never looked so good. A final shout out needs to go to the G-Team, the Gryphon players that were out there all tournament representing themselves, their team, country and the Gryphon name. You guys are the reason the fans come and the reason they’ll return. Awesome stuff.

Warm weather has left us. Now we have grey skies and an Australian winter here. Perfect conditions for two western European sides to battle for the bronze medal here at the Champions Trophy. They played yesterday and the Dutch exposed the Germans but only managed a one to nil win.
Today it was a chance for the home side to counter and stamp their world number two ranking on Holland.
Reversed.
Holland came out like the world number two and germany looked like they were struggling. Matter of a few short minutes and the home crowd was done. The visiting people in orange were dancing and jumping around. Orange was back. Their attacking style was working both with field play and generating short corners. Their backs strong and keeping the Germans at bay.
In short, a whitewash. Holland outplayed Germany in every respect. An amazing turn around for both teams in this short tournament. Germany finishing second at last year’s CT and also at the World Cup this year have finished fourth. Holland take the Bronze.
It was a pleasure to see the Dutch style of play come together and only good things will come from this and their young team.
Holland (bronze) 4, Germany (4th) 1

Round two of the open final and relegation contest is this game. Germany has the the fate in their tent. They cannot go into relegation and the result from England / New Zealand doesn’t hinder the Germans. If they win they go through to play Australia. This also means Holland is in danger of the relegation zone.
A big Holland win due to the result of England’s win over New Zealand puts them still in a mathematical chance of the final if Australia beat Spain.
That equation came into fruition. Holland played their new open style and pushing the ball forward creating field goal and corner chances a plenty. This style is becoming much more attractive as they play it and refreshing contrast their previous styles and that of Germany. The Germans got sucked into the open and running style of game but it was evident that they couldn’t match the skill and speed of Holland.
The Dutch scored the only goal of the game from a PC. It was all we saw go in the net. The Dutch defense consisting of Gryphon’s Wouter Jolie and Sander Baart stood too tall (although these two are not the tallest players on the pitch). It wont be enough to put them in the Final but it means that now these two teams will play once again tomorrow for the bronze medal.
Final: Holland 1 – Germany 0

In the tradition of hockey tournaments all around the world, Gryphon is always present. This year in Germany we have brought the pallets and all the good gear to check out and buy.
These stands take days to set up but are great fun to rip down. Here in Germany the guys have done a great job on the setup and making the tent welcoming.
Come and check it out, the Gryphon players will be dropping in after games and signing posters and the walls and anything else you want. Say hi to Simon and Toby who are working there, smile and say Gryphon-life sent ya.

Day 4 of the CT10 had the World #1 Australia play the World #2 Germany. Last time these two teams meet on this field was the classic match of the WC06 final where Germany came from 1-3 behind to win 4-3 is what has been dubbed as one of the best finals in world hockey…Ever.

Netherlands played England and Spain took on New Zealand…Upsets in the making? This CT10 has so far averaged 7.5 goals per game, so we’d say you better watch on as the goals scoring trend continues!

One v Two. World rankings. Last World Cup placing. Last CT placings. Current placings in this tournament. One v Two.
This is the blockbuster so far. The crowd definitely turned up to see One v Two, with the largest numbers to date. Announcers got the masses moving and cheering for the home team and “Eye of the Tiger” was playing before the game’s start. An electric atmosphere was here with the late evening sun starting to set on the 8pm game (mind you it was still setting at the end of the game).
Sadly… the game itself wasn’t electric. The first half suffered from over-hype and the players weren’t as sharp with skill as they have shown. Things were all square at half time, so there was still hope.
As the sun continued to set and the clouds showed us a glimpse of red, the Aussie defence tightened up. Joel Carroll and Fergus Kavanagh (Beggers was on rest duty) were clearly the generals of the stoppers keeping Germany away from goal at all costs. Mark Paterson frequented the front line setting up attack after attack from the attacking midfield.
So it was natural that the ground announcer had to keep winding the crowd into noise as Australia took two more goals in the second to silence the home audience.
One v Two. That was the equation coming into the game and it didn’t change on the way out. Australia won 3 goals to 1 stamping authority on the top of the table, actually doubling the points amassed by second position. Germany stay at 2, but one point over Spain.
