Just sitting in the Internet lounge in the athlete Village at the Commonwealth Games and thought it was about time for another post.
So far it has been really amazing with something interesting happening every day. We started the tournament off playing Scotland on wednesday morning which involved us being up at 5 am for breakfast and a quick briefing before we went to the ground, which was not enjoyable, anyway we played some pretty good hockey and managed to knock in 9 goals to their zero, a good start to a tough competition.
Thursday night we played hosts india under lights where there was expected to be a packed crowd. Well the Indian’s did not disappoint with an estimated 16 000 screaming fans filling the stadium. On the Bench you could not hear the person beside you let alone trying to communicate on the field. An experience I will never forget. Every time they got the ball and eliminated one of us or went forward the crowd would go crazy hoping for a goal. Luckily for us we managed to get a couple of early goals which helped silence them, unfortunately they came back and hit one against us making it a tight battle at half time. We came out with a more up tempo game and alot more energy which allowed us to score another 3 times which sealed the victory.
Other than hockey we haven’t been doing much..
A fair bit of time spent by the pool recovering and attempting to escape the hot conditions, also having a bit of fun with the footy..
We have a tough couple of games in the next few days with Pakistan tomorrow and Malaysia on Sunday. Hopefully we can keep up our good form and hit plenty more goals.
